3 Tips for Losing Weight When You’re on a Tight Budget

“It just costs too much to eat well…”

Does this sound familiar?  Many of us with a little extra around the middle, often blame the high cost of buying “diet” food for our inability to go on, or stick to, a diet.

Well, it doesn’t have to cost a ton of money to eat well and lose weight.

Let’s take a look at 3 ways you can save money all the while shedding a few pounds:

1. Eat at Home!

Whether you’re keeping an eye on your figure, or just trying to get spending under control, limiting how often you dine out can really help.  The money you save by preparing meals at home can go towards those “healthy” foods that you might otherwise pass on when shopping for food.

2. Canned Vegetables

That’s right, canned vegetables.  Eating more vegetables is always a great way to lose some weight, but the cost of fresh vegetables is often times cost prohibitive for those on a tight budget.  Well, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, canned vegetables can be just as healthy as fresh vegetables!

3. Make Your Own Snacks.

When your are dieting, having small, great tasting snacks is key to being successful in reaching your goal.  But the cost of pre-packaged “healthy” or “diet” snacks can get expensive.  Here are a few ideas for snacks that you can make yourself… and can be thrown into a zip-lock bag and taken anywhere.  –Mixed nuts & Raisins -Parmesan Popcorn -Celery and Peanut Butter.
