The Emergency Financial Assistance for Housing Program (EFAHP) gives one-time financial help up to $400. It supports families who have no shelter or may lose their home due to unpaid rent or mortgage. In addition, it helps families affected by disasters such as fire or flood.
Who Can Qualify?
To qualify for EFAHP, your household must meet these conditions:
You must have at least one child under 18 in the home.
You must live, work, or look for work in Florida.
At least one child or caretaker must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
You must show proof of a housing emergency, such as an eviction or foreclosure notice.
You must show that you do not have enough money to pay rent or a mortgage.
Your household income must meet Florida need guidelines.
In addition, the program reviews your income for the month you apply. However, it does not count SSI income.
Proof of Emergency and Address
You must provide documents that confirm your situation. For example, you can submit:
A court eviction notice
A foreclosure notice
A disaster report (fire or flood)
A rent receipt or utility bill showing your current address
If needed, the EFAHP office may call local agencies to verify your emergency.
Important Conditions
Your financial problem must result from a real emergency. It cannot come from poor money management. Also, you must complete, sign, and date the application form.
How to Apply
To apply for EFAHP, you must complete the required forms and submit all supporting documents. Make sure you include proof of income, proof of address, and proof of your housing emergency. This helps speed up the review process.
