Why is Everyone Moving to Texas?

Many of the top 10 fastest growing cities in the US are in Texas, according to figures from the US Census Bureau.  But why?

One reason is just a natural increase, more people being born there than dying.  But the amount of people moving to Texas from other places in the US (and other countries) far outnumbers other American states.

Let’s take a look at some of the other reasons why everyone seems to be moving to Texas.

It’s just plain cheaper.  Compared to most other states in the Union, the cost of living is considerable cheaper in Texas.  With the need for your paycheck to go as far as possible, Texas makes this possible with low consumer prices, utilities, and transportation costs and housing.

There is work to be found.  With Austin Texas at an unemployment rate of 4.6% and a projected job growth average to 4% in 2015, Texas has most other states whipped when it comes to jobs.

Real Estate.  Land is simply cheaper in Texas.  Dr Ali Anari, research economist at the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University, says that “There is an abundant supply of land and fewer regulations and more friendly government, generally a much better business attitude here than other states.”

Taxes.  Texas has no personal state income tax.  While many Texans complain that property taxes are high, only 5 states in the US have a lower individual tax burden.

So if you are having trouble finding work or making ends meet, maybe a move to Texas could be the new start you’ve been dreaming about.
