Dont Worry, Budget Happy

make budgeting funBudgeting doesn’t have to be a chore and a burden. By applying these steps, you can make the act of creating a family budget more fun.

When your budget is more fun, you’re more likely to stick with it.

Find an App for That

There are plenty of smartphone apps that will allow you to track your spending and saving, create a budget, and track financial goals. This helps you to organize your finances in a way that is easy and can even be fun. When you make budgeting a game, it becomes easier to commit and stick to your plan.

Set Goals

Creating a budget should be about more than simply changing how you spend and save. It should also be about setting financial goals for your future. These goals can include paying down your credit card debt, adding to your emergency fund, or saving up money to use for a down payment on a home or a car.

Need encouragement? Put a picture of your goal in your wallet or on your desk. It will remind you of what you’re trying to achieve every time you’re tempted to buy something you don’t necessarily need.

Set Milestones

If you’re trying to achieve big goals, it can be helpful to set milestones for yourself. Trying to set aside six months salary as a goal? Set milestones for every month. This allows you to track your progress, and you can give yourself a reward for every month that you achieve your goal.

Learn Something New

Use your budgeting as an incentive to learn new skills. Trying to cut back on take-out? There are plenty of ways to learn to cook that are free or very affordable. Want to stretch out your clothing budget? Learn to sew; even the ability to make small repairs can help your current wardrobe last longer.

Get Support

When you’re dealing with financial stress, the last thing you want to do is go through it alone. Talk to your friends and family. Many of them may be in a similar situation and you can encourage each other to succeed.
