At no charge, your certified credit counselor will review your personal monthly budget in detail and help you determine a plan of action to better your personal finances which includes determining the root cause of your financial distress.
You will be asked pertinent questions in regards to your monthly income; your fixed expenses such as: rent or mortgage payments; your flexible expenses such as: clothing or entertainment and your unsecured credit card and personal loan expenses such as: store credit cards, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, Gas Station or unsecure lines of credit, etc. you may have.
It is best to have your receipts, checkbooks, bank statements and credit card statements available for the counseling. These will help you to get the most benefit out of your counseling session. All information that is given to Debthelper is completely secure and confidential.
While your budget is being reviewed, your counselor will make suggestions to improve your monthly financial situation, improve your current monthly budget and help you examine and determine what your short-term and long-term goals are.
If you have a recent copy of your credit report, you are encouraged to provide a copy of it to your counselor. Debthelper counselors are trained to read and review your credit report and to provide helpful advice on how to boost your credit worthiness.
After a comprehensive review of your finances, your credit counselor will recommend a course of action that is appropriate for your financial needs. If you show a significant amount of financial distress you may be encouraged to join a debt management program; be provided educational material or to contact other community resources for help.
