The “hardest hit” program is for unemployed and underemployed homeowners.
The money can be used to make mortgage payments for up to 18 months or to make a delinquent loan current. It goes directly to the lenders and does not need to be paid back unless the home is sold within five years or the homeowner goes into foreclosure.
Those who qualify may receive up to 35-thousand dollars.

Help for Unemployed and Underemployed Homeowners
The Hardest Hit Program helps homeowners who are unemployed or underemployed. It provides financial support to prevent foreclosure.
The program pays mortgage assistance directly to lenders. Homeowners can use the funds to cover mortgage payments for up to 18 months. The money can also bring a delinquent loan up to date.
Homeowners do not need to repay the money in most cases. Repayment applies only if they sell the home within five years or lose the home to foreclosure.
Qualified applicants may receive up to $35,000 in assistance.
