If you are like most of us, saving money anywhere you can is important.  One place where we spend a majority of our hard-earned money is at the grocery store.

Don’t fear, it is possible to stick to a food shopping budget without making Ramen Noodles your only meal.

My wife and I have been fortunate in that she is able to stay home with the kids and not be employed outside of the home.  This is not possible because I am independently wealthy, just the opposite, we have had to make adjustments to our lifestyle to make this happen.

One of the many ways we have done this is to spend less, especially when it comes to groceries.

My wife has gotten really good at finding the least expensive places to shop for food.  The following are a list of the cheapest places to buy groceries. …in no particular order.

Walmart

Walmart, at least the one by us, price-matches.  My wife gathers up the local sales ads and papers and looks for the things that we normally buy.  Sometimes you don’t even have to have the competitor’s ad, they are good at price-matching by just telling them who has what, and how much it is.

Dollar General Market

While the Dollar General Market might not sound like a place you would think of for doing your grocery shopping, we spend the bulk of our food budget here.  Dollar General not only has amazing prices on their store-brand items ($1 loaf of bread, $1 2.5 liter soda) but they also carry name brand items at discounted prices.

Costco / Sam’s Club

We do not shop at the big wholesale club stores very often, but when we do, we buy in bulk and save a considerable amount of money.

So, where is the cheapest place to buy groceries?  Well, for us it is without a doubt, Dollar General Market.  Be sure to check your neighborhood for a Dollar General Market… you’ll be surprised at just how much money you can save!
